The work

The transmission grid is among the most complex machines humans have ever built, and we're about to bolt a lot more onto it: data centers, EVs, gigawatts of solar and wind, grid-forming inverters that don't act like the rotating machines our planning models still assume. Today's tools weren't designed for that pace or volume.

At Accelergen Energy I work on grid analytics and interconnection forecasting across WECC and SPP. On the side I'm building GridMapper, an AI-accelerated power-flow and N-1 contingency engine that runs the kind of studies planners normally wait days for in under a second.

The background

Before Accelergen I interned across the energy stack: clean-energy field work at Common Energy, building audits at Wendel, a renewable-natural-gas feasibility study at National Fuel, transmission analysis and Python automation at Savion, and electrical-infrastructure design on Tesla's Semi factory in Sparks, NV. I also did graduate research at UB to hone my programming and AI/ML fundamentals.

I picked up Python on the job at Savion and never put it down. Most of what I build now is some combination of Python, Rust, and CUDA, usually wrapped in an interactive GUI/visualization.

What I care about

Compressing the feedback loop for planners. Studies that used to take days should be conversational. The right tool turns a week of waiting into a morning of exploration.

Honest validation. Every new model has to be checked against the tools the industry already trusts before it earns a seat at the table. Speed without rigor is just confidence at scale.

AI that respects the physics. The grid is a physics problem first. Machine learning helps when it's built on top of that, not when it pretends the laws of power flow don't apply.

What's next

First commercial deployments of GridMapper. More automation around interconnection studies. And writing more. I've been keeping notes on what I learn, and I want to publish them.
